SignalForm vs Google Forms
Google Forms is free, quick and genuinely good at what it was built for — an internal poll, a sign-up sheet, a quick survey among people who already know you.
It starts to cost you when the form is the first thing a client sees: when you need it to look like your business, take a deposit, carry a signature, or let someone upload a file without being asked to log in to Google first.
| Feature | Google Forms | SignalForm |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Free | Free, or $15/mo flat for Pro |
| Responses per month | Unlimited | 500 free, unlimited on Pro |
| Looks like your brand | Fixed themes, Google styling | Your colours and fonts; badge removable on Pro |
| One question at a time | No | Yes — conversational or classic |
| Collect payments | No | Yes, through your own Stripe account |
| Signature capture | No | Yes, a real signature field |
| File uploads | Yes — respondent must sign in to Google | Yes on Pro, no sign-in required |
| Embed in your own site | iframe only | Inline, popup and slide-over |
| Contact records | No | Contacts, tags and notes built in |
| Email your respondents | No | Built-in newsletters |
| Conditional logic | Branch to another section | Show or hide any question on an earlier answer |
| Multi-page forms | Yes | Yes, on Pro |
| Quizzes with scoring | Yes | Yes |
| Response notifications | Yes | Yes |
| Data export | Google Sheets | CSV export |
| Ad trackers on your form | Served by Google, subject to Google's data collection | None — performance monitoring only |
The row where Google Forms wins is left in on purpose: unlimited free responses. Conditional logic is a difference in shape rather than a win either way — Google Forms jumps between whole sections, SignalForm shows and hides individual questions.
When you should just stay on Google Forms
- It is an internal form and nobody outside your organization sees it.
- You need to skip whole sections at once — SignalForm shows and hides individual questions, but does not jump between pages.
- You collect thousands of responses a month and the form never needs to look like anything.
- Your answers need to land in a Google Sheet that other tooling already reads.
Bring your existing form with you
You do not have to retype anything. Sign up, connect your Google account on the Import page, and pick the form you want — SignalForm rebuilds it as an editable form in a few seconds.
What comes across
- Question titles, help text, required flags and the order they are in
- Short answer and paragraph questions
- Multiple choice, checkboxes and dropdowns, with their options — and multi-select stays multi-select
- Linear scales, with their range
- Dates, keeping the time component where you set one
What does not
- File upload and grid questions — those are skipped, and you add them back
- Images and section headers, which are not questions
- Section branching rules
- The labels at either end of a linear scale
- Your Google Forms theme — you pick colours in SignalForm instead
Questions people ask
Is SignalForm actually free?
Yes. The free plan covers unlimited forms, 500 responses a month, embeds, CSV export and webhooks, with no credit card. Pro is $15/mo flat and adds file uploads, multi-page forms, scheduling, custom thank-you pages and removes the SignalForm badge.
Can I import a form I already built in Google Forms?
Yes. Sign up, connect your Google account from the Import page, pick the form from the list, and SignalForm rebuilds it as an editable form. Questions, options, help text and required flags come across; file upload and grid questions are skipped.
Do people need an account to fill in my form?
No. Anyone with the link can answer, including file uploads on Pro. Google Forms requires respondents to sign in to a Google account before they can upload a file, which is a common reason people lose submissions.
Can I take a deposit or payment on the form?
Yes. Connect your own Stripe account and add a payment step to any form — the money goes to your Stripe account, not through SignalForm. The free plan covers up to 500 payments a month.
Does SignalForm track the people who fill in my form?
There are no advertising or ad-network tags on your form. The form loads performance monitoring so we can tell when forms are slow or failing, and none of that is shared with an ad network. A Google Form is served from Google's own domain and is subject to Google's data collection.
Does it work properly on a phone?
Yes. Forms can show one question at a time, which is designed for a phone, and the form itself is deliberately small so it loads quickly on a mobile connection.
